Technicians with the Corpus Christi police department bomb squad responded to a suspicious package that was discovered inside a United States post office.
Police surrounded and secured the area around the post office located near Weber Road and Saratoga Boulevard.
Police say a resident tried to drop off mail and discovered an abandoned suspicious package around 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening.
As a result of the discovery, officers had to close off certain streets around the building.
When bomb squad members arrived, they deployed a remote-controlled robot to secure the package.
After the package was secured, police said technicians determined the package was not a threat to the community but added they were going to gather additional evidence on who may have left the item near the post office.
Captain David Cook, with the Corpus Christi police department, said, “We had to just shut down the area, the device was inside and it was well secured.”
Capt. Cook asked the public to remain vigilant. If someone sees anything suspicious or out of the ordinary, Cook says to call 911.
