Alice ISD is turning to the public for help to ensure all of their students ready for winter.
The 7th Annual Coat drive kicked off Monday.
The district is asking for new or like-new pieces of winter apparel in all sizes. Items in need include coats, sweaters, gloves, and scarves. Donations can be dropped off inside the administration building located at #2 Coyote Trail. Staff will then distribute the articles of clothing to students in need.
“It’s always hard for families, right now with the oil field being like it is, some individuals may have lost their jobs,” says AISD spokesperson Ofelia Hunter, “You never want to use your sibling’s hand-me-downs, so it’s always nice if they can have a new item in their closet that they can use, and of course it’s a necessity.”
The district is hoping to collect more than 500 winter items and is also accepting monetary donations. Every dollar will be spent on winter clothes for students in need.
The coat drive ends on November 30.
