CORPUS CHRISTI – Corpus Christi Police today responded to a report of a suspicious object that was left on a bus stop bench.According to Lt. Curtis Abbott with CCPD, officers were called out to a bus stop near the intersection of  Ayers and 18th Streets next to the old ButterKrust factory shortly after 3 p.m.  When the responding officer arrived, he saw what appeared to be a portable gas tank for boats with wires sticking out of it.  Officers followed protocol for suspicious looking devices and established a perimeter around the bench.  The bomb unit was called in and they determined the tank was not a danger to the public.“We called our bomb unit out, they’ve inspected the tank,” Abbott said. “It’s not going to be a danger to the public, it’s a portable fuel tank that somebody had just left there on the bus bench.”Abbott said the fuel tank was empty and assume that modifications may have been made to it to work some kind of aftermarket instrument or device.
