The Kleberg County Sheriff’s Office says a body washed up in a creek in Riviera, Texas following the recent heavy rains.
Officers have identified the man as 29-year-old Honduran national, Jose Melvin Melgar. His identity was made through his personal I.D. card and notes found on his body.
Authorities believe he crossed the border with seven other people six of which were arrested. Melgar may have attempted to cross Los Olmos Creek on the La Paloma Ranch in Riviera, Texas which was above average water levels due to the heavy rains. He’d been reported missing since Friday, June 22nd.
Officials say he was pronounced dead on Tuesday, June 26th. His body was taken to Turcotte-Piper Mortuary in Kingsville, Texas and next kin was notified.
