COVENTRY, R.I. (AP) – A Rhode Island town has shut down usage of a lake due to feces-related bacteria.

Coventry’s Emergency Management Agency says Tuesday it is closing Tiogue Lake due to high concentration of Enterococci bacteria.

Enterococci bacteria is linked to human and animal feces. Contact can result in flu-like symptoms, pelvic and urinary tract infections, and other medical issues.

EMA says the lake is closed to "all forms of water contact" until further notice.

The department said that water quality testing is ongoing. There is no word on whether anyone has been specifically impacted by the bacteria.
