AUSTIN, Texas (AP) – Austin police have arrested and charged a 24-year-old woman with murder for a hit-and-run crash and fatal shooting last week.
Police say Cierra Powell is jailed on $150,000 bond and charged with the death of 36-year-old Jason Aranda.
Austin television station KXAN reports that according to a police affidavit, witnesses said a woman deliberately hit Aranda at a southeast Austin intersection Thursday and then fled the scene.
The affidavit says Powell told authorities Aranda got out of his car and she shot him in self-defense when he tried to attack her. It also says Aranda’s 13-year-old son was in his father’s car at the time of the shooting.
Authorities say the Powell and Aranda knew each other.
