We needed rain, but most of us got more than we bargained for. More rain is possible through around lunchtime on Thursday, but it’s not expected to be quite as widespread. However, it won’t take much rain to produce flooding since the ground is so saturated.
Wednesday night – Thursday
The past three mornings have brought large flare-ups in showers and thunderstorms in the region. This is once again possible overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning. While it is not likely to be quite as widespread, some heavy downpours are still possible due to the high amounts of moisture that remain in the atmosphere. If we see another round of rain, more flooding is likely since the ground has already had all the rain it can handle. Any flooding would once again disrupt the morning commute in many locations.
During the afternoon, expect to see rain coverage decrease significantly. The low pressure system that has been parked in the area since the beginning of the week will finally begin moving by late Thursday, taking the rain chances with it.
High temperatures are likely to get a little warmer than they have the last few days since the rain is expected to be finished before the afternoon heating. That said, a lot of clouds will be in the area which should keep us from reaching the 90s.
Friday: Is that su..su…sunshine?
While we may see a few morning clouds to start our Friday, but as we progress throughout the day, we should get a good glimpse of our old friend the sun. As a result of the sunshine, highs will top 90 degrees and the humidity will bring the heat index to near 100 degrees. But the best news is – no more rain. We need a break.
The weekend
The sun will continue through the weekend, but the breeze will pick up significantly on Saturday lasting through the start of next week. Highs will be in the 90s with heat index values still near 100 degrees.
