Rain chances stick around through Thursday

We’ve been waiting, but it’s finally here. The tropical wave that will bring our increased chances for rain over the next several days is now just offshore. It will be moving into the Coastal Bend over the next day or so, and it looks like it will be sticking around through Thursday.

Monday: Rain likely

The rain will become more widespread throughout the morning and early afternoon. A slight lull could occur by late afternoon, but there will likely still be some scattered shower activity around the area.

Rainfall totals for today aren’t really a concern. We’ve been very dry lately and that will give us the capability to soak up a lot of the rain that we’ll receive. However, depending on how much rain we get on Monday, the rainfall totals of Tuesday through Thursday could start to be a problem.

We’ll see highs only in the upper 80s as the rain and cloud cover keep things a little cooler.

Tuesday: More rain, heavy rain possible

The surge of moisture will continue to spark numerous rounds of heavy, tropical rain across the region on Tuesday. Tropical waves have the tendency to see big flare-ups in rainfall during the overnight hours, and since our rain-maker is a tropical wave, we’ll likely see some heavier rain in the area early Tuesday morning.

There are likely to be bands of rain that set up and “train” over the same area time and time again. If and when those set up, we’ll have to watch for high rainfall totals in those areas. If you can stay out of these heavy, training bands of showers and storms, the rainfall should come at manageable rates.

Wednesday: The story continues…

The rain looks to continue even on Wednesday as the tropical wave decides to meander around South Texas instead of moving out. Heavy rain and the potential of some flooding in flood-prone areas will still be a concern.

The tropical wave looks like it will finally move on out by the end of the week, but we have a lot of rain to come before that happens. Expect totals between 3 – 6 inches for the coastal counties, with isolated spots of more than that. Further inland, and especially west of Corpus Christi, the totals will be much lower, likely below 2-3 inches.

Stay with Action 10 over the coming days as we continue to watch the potential for heavy rainfall.
