Underground explosion occurs at Pennsylvania gas station

UPDATE (9:00 p.m. ET):  Crews still work to rescue gas station worker that is trapped underground after an explosion was reported earlier this evening. Authorities say that while it is a priority to rescue the man, they also want to prevent others from getting injured.

Currently, the crews are working to remove concrete pieces with cranes and siphon gas as their is still a lot of fumes.  Several houses were evacuated around the gas station.

One person was taken to the hospital earlier today in critical condition.  No word on his current condition or the trapped person’s condition.


PENNSYLVANIA – CBS affiliate in Philadelphia, KYW News, reports an underground explosion has occurred around 5 p.m. Eastern time at a gas station in Bensalem.

According to the media outlet, crews were called out to a report of an explosion around 5 p.m.

When they arrived, they found the explosion happened underground at a gas station.

One worker was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. There is no word on the victim’s condition.

Crews say another worked is trapped underground.
