Refugio Ladycats wins 2A Track and Field State Title for first time since 1992

On May 11 and May 12, the Refugio Ladycats competed for the 2A Track and Field State Title in Austin.  They succeeded in bringing it back with them.  The last time this happened was in 1992. 

The Refugio Chamber of Commerce held a special ceremony today for the Ladycats and some of the 1992 champs attended with their coach at the time, Coach George Harris.

The 2018 team is coached by Katie Green with assistant coaches, Dave Hemphill, Megan Montemayor and Adam Speigleman.

Some of the athletes who contributed to the team’s title include:

Jai’ Lin King – 1st place in long jump, 5th place in high jump
Audrey Rose – 7th place in 100 meter
Audrey Rose, Jasmine Perez, Kierra Clark and Tracelyn Ross – 4th place in 4×100 Relay
Alexa Valenzuela, Jasmine Perez, Tracelyn Ross, and Nadaisha Shaw – 3rd place in 4×200 Relay
Alexa Valenzuela – 1st place in 100 meter, 1st in triple jump, 1st in 200 meter
