KLEBERG COUNTY – The Kleberg County Sheriff’s Office says there is a phone scam targeting the elderly.  The calls appear to be an attempt to scam money from local residents.

According to a press release from the Kleberg County Sheriff’s Office, scammers are calling the elderly in the late evening time asking for ransom amounts between $20,000 and $50,000 to release a relative.

The Sheriff of Kleberg County says they have not had any kidnappings reported to their office.

They also added it appears that all the calls have come in on landline phones in the Riviera, Texas area.

Detectives ask if anyone who has information about who may be involved in making these calls to notify them by calling 361-595-8500 or their local Crime Stoppers number at 361-592-4636.
