In an effort to keep certain prescription drugs off the streets (and out of city sewers), the Drug Enforcement Agency hosted its twice-yearly take-back event on Saturday.

Residents across the Coastal Bend turned over unwanted, unused or expired medications to the DEA for its "Drug Take Back Event," which had several drop-off locations in the area.

Unwanted prescription drugs should never be discarded in the trash, and definitely not down anything that connects to a sewer. Instead, events like this one allow you to safely dispose of extra medications.

Over 700 pounds of unwanted drugs were collected during the event, according to officials.

However, if you couldn’t make it out, there are other locations where you can still safely dispose of your medications. Just visit this website.
