This Saturday, the Sunrise Mall is holding the "Popup Shops at Sunrise Mall" event. More than a dozen boutique owners and one non-profit charity will be there selling clothes, jewelry, Tupperware and other goods at the mall’s center court.
The organizer of the event, Lori Gonzalez-Ybarra, hopes this will bring more people to Sunrise Mall.
"I remember it back in the 80s and 90s and this was the mall to be at. Looking at it right now, it’s kind of sad. So, I want to kind of build it back up, and since all the big box stores left, I think small businesses can bring it back to life." said Gonzalez-Ybarra.
Saturday’s event is free and runs from noon until 4 p.m. in the center court.
According to Dress for Success Executive Director, Cathy Riojas, they are the only non-profit participating.
Gonzalez-Ybarra says if the event goes well, they will plan another "pop up shop" later this year.
