UPDATE JUNE 5: 1:45 P.M. - The man who was fatally shot during a struggle with police on Rockford Drive Wednesday afternoon has been identified.
Eric Galvan, 25, of Corpus Christi has been identified by the Medical Examiner's Office. He died of a gunshot wound to the body, an examiner said.
UPDATE June 4 12:00 a.m. According to the Nueces County District Attorney's Office, the man shot during a struggle over a gun with officers did not survive his injuries.
In a press release issued at 12:00 a.m., District Attorney Mark Gonzales stated that his office was notified of the shooting and began immediate communication with supervisors on the scene.
Gonzales stated his office walked through the scene, observed witness interviews and reviewed body camera footage. It confirmed three officers followed up on a recent homicide investigation to question a person of interest and allowed entry into a home on Rockford Drive.
The officers were directed to a bedroom where they found the person they were looking for lying face down on the bed with his hands hidden under the pillow. Officers saw a gun and tried to take it away. A struggle ensued and the man fired shots even after being stunned with a taser according to the release. After attempts at disarming the subject were unsuccessful, officers were forced to return fire.
The statement said, "Officials are unsure whether the man was killed when an by an officer's gun was fired, or by an accidental self-inflicted wound in the struggle for his gun."
Gonzales notes that the videos and case report will be submitted to the Nueces County Grand Jury for consideration as dictated by protocol following an officer involved shooting.

UPDATE 6:30 p.m. CCPD Chief Michael Markle broke down the events which resulted in an officer-involved shooting in a news conference Wednesday afternoon.
He said two detectives went to a home on the 2000 block of Rockford Drive just before 5 p.m. to follow-up on a homicide investigation. The owners of the home, whom he referred to as also referred to as 'grandparents,' allowed officers inside and told them the person they were looking for was in the back of the house.
Markle said the suspect produced a weapon, and a struggle ensued. The man fired multiple rounds before officers returned fire.
"I tell you what, this national narrative making our officers hesitant to protect their own lives -- because they don't want to be drug through the media -- is problematic," he said. "Our officers went above and beyond to keep themselves from having to shoot."
The man, who is described as a Hispanic male in his mid-20's, was injured and taken to a hospital. His condition still is unknown. He was considered a person of interest in a recent homicide investigation.
The officers will be placed on administrative leave as protocol dictates during the investigation into the incident.

Corpus Christi Police Department officers are shutting down traffic in the area of West Point Road and Rockford Drive, in the Molina neighborhood on the city's west side.
KRIS 6 News has learned there's been a shooting on the 2000 block of Rockford Drive.
There are several officers in the area and we're told that Corpus Christi Police Chief Mike Markle has arrived on the scene.
Officers are closing a nearby intersection.
