CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A veteran owned and operated store in Alice is trying to fill an entire U-Haul truck with goodies to give away to kids this holiday season. But they'll need your help.

Santa Claus has elves to help him spread joy.

But Silvestre Rodriguez has “Silver Star’, his family business, and tomorrow everyone there will be collecting toys.

“Give those community members who are a little bit down on their luck an opportunity to have a good holiday,” said Amanda Sue Friedeck, the business owner’s daughter.

The goal is to fill an entire U-Haul truck with toys to give away to foster children. From newborn babies to 17-year-old’s, the family will be dividing the toys and donating them to C.A.S.A, Community Coalition for Children and Families, and 'A World for Children'.

“It’s not about us we're doing it to help the needy and help those children in foster care who get picked up and when they get sent somewhere, they have something,” said Rodriguez.

The family has been in business here in Alice for over 21 years. And there were times when they also struggled financially but the community always helped them out. Now, because of that they want to give back.

“Not only do we want to give back, but maybe other local businesses will follow in the footsteps,” said Friedeck.

They will also be accepting nonperishable food items, those will be donated to both the Alice Food Pantry and the Coastal Bend Food Bank.

The event will be held from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Silver Star Food Store located at 909 South Cameron street in Alice, TX.
