CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The 63rd annual GRAMMY Awards will be honoring six artists with a Lifetime Achievement Award for their accomplishments in the music industry, and one of those honorees will be the Queen of Tejano music herself, the late Selena Quintanilla.
The Recording Academy defines the award as a celebration of performers “who have made outstanding contributions of artistic significance to the field of recording”.
The academy said in a release that Selena’s 1993 album ‘Live’ won best Mexican-American album at the 36th annual GRAMMY Awards, being the first female Tejano singer to win the category. Additionally, in 1995, Selena’s album ‘Dreaming of You’ sold 175,000 copies on the day of its release, a then-record for a female vocalist.
Selena will be receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award alongside Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, Lionel Hampton, Marilyn Horne, Salt-N-Pepa, and Talking Heads.
The honorees will be recognized on Jan. 31, 2021.
