CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Flames and smoke forced an elderly couple to run from their Annaville home Tuesday morning.
The couple told firefighters they were in their home on the 4300 block of Starlite Drive when they heard a "boom" coming from a rear utility room.
The next thing they knew, smoke and flames were coming from that part of the house.
They were able to get out safely.
The fire caused heavy damage to the home but it's not known how it started.
It took fire crews about half an hour to get the fire under control.
One issue they ran into was a nearby fire hydrant that was not working.
