NAS-CC lockdown ends; only south gate is open

The Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi Facebook page is reporting that the south gate is open and one suspect in custody after a man in a truck reportedly driving a stolen pickup truck breached the base's north gate. That gate remains closed.

Ammunition and weapons reportedly were found in the truck.

NAS-CC public information officer Francoise "Fifi" Kieschnick tells KRIS Communications that a vehicle attempted to make an unauthorized entry onto the base. The final "active denial devices," pylons that jut from the ground, were enacted, the truck crashed and the suspect fled on foot.

The white Dodge Ram led Corpus Christi Police on a chase that began in Portland and eventually involved six units.

A Facebook post just went up on the Naval Air Station Corpus Christi official account advising people to shelter in place and follow active shooter protocols, even though no shots have been fire.

School buses have been diverted from the base.
