Classes have been canceled today for Saenz Elementary, Noonan Elementary and Memorial Intermediate School students in Alice for Monday due to a major water line break.
Classes are expected to resume normally tomorrow.
Alice city officials announced that one of the city's main water lines developed a break late Sunday evening. The water line feeds the west side water tower and much of the west side of Alice along State Highway 281,
City crews began work before midnight trying to isolate the 20-inch line to find the damage and repair the leak. They worked through the night, limiting the amount of water going through the line in order to begin repairs. That work caused some areas in the city of have little to no water pressure.
The city is hoping to have most of the work completed by the middle of the morning.
