UPDATE (12/9/2022):

The Police Officer who Corpus Christi Police said shot and killed a man has been identified as Senior Officer Alexander LaBatto.

The department released Officer LaBatto's name stating "as is our practice, we are releasing the information for the officer who was involved in the shooting on November 25, 2022."

Corpus Christi Police said Officer LaBatto has been placed on paid administrative leave, which is current department practice and policy.

Officer LaBatto has been a police officer with the Corpus Christi Police Department for 10 years.

CCPD said the shooting is still an active and ongoing investigation.

UPDATE (11/28/2022):

The man killed in the officer-involved shooting on Friday night has been identified by the Nueces County Medical Examiner as 46-year-old Jose Torres.

The Corpus Christi Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting that left one man dead Friday night.

The shooting happened at the Coastal Pointe Apartments located in the 3000 block of Antelope Street.

Police Chief Mike Markle said officers responded to a domestic disturbance call when the suspect pulled out a "long arm weapon."

Chief Markle said one officer shot and killed the suspect.

"There were several officers on-scene. One officer fired his duty weapon. The suspect who was struck has succumbed to his injury on-scene," said Chief Markle.

Markle said it was unclear how many shots were fired, but only one officer was involved.

Information remains limited, but the CCPD said the officer has been placed on administrative leave while the shooting is under investigation.
