KINGSVILLE, Texas — The Navy is seeking to sample water from private drinking wells near Naval Air Station-Kingsville and Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi.
A meeting was be held tonight at the Elks Club in Kingsville to discuss this program.
More specifically, the Navy intends to sample drinking water wells, contingent upon receiving permission of the owners, for the presence of Polyfluoroalkyl Substances, an ingredient used in the manufacture of firefighting agent AFFF or aqueous film forming foams.
These substances are part of a family of human-made chemicals that are found in a wide range of products used by consumers and industry. There are nearly 5,000 types of PFAS, some of which have been more widely used and studied than others. Many PFAS are resistant to grease, oil, water and heat.
There are 32 known wells within a mile of NAS Kingsville. Six more known wells are around Naval Air Station-Corpus Christi and 99 known wells around Waldron Field.
