CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi has once again been recognized as a top fishing city.
Thirteen cities were named in the country.
FishingBooker -- a website dedicated to booking fishing trips -- revealed their list for 2019.
With 80-degree winter weather, there's no doubt fishing in Corpus Christi is good to anglers.
Corpus was the only city in Texas making the list. FishingBooker's Managing Editor Albert Grain said the list is based on an extensive analysis that includes factors like: user reviews, variety of species and overall experience.
“For anglers who love having a variety of activities to choose from when going on vacation, we researched large and beautiful US cities that exceeded our customer's expectations this year. This should help anglers organize their perfect city break," Grain said.
According to the website, the region around Corpus Christi contains four separate bay systems that cover a variety of habitats.
"There's adequate fish," Fisherman's Place Owner Ralph Cuellar Jr. said. "Reds, drums, speckled-trouts. There has been good reports in the flats of some triple-tails being schooled up. There's been some gag-groupers as well and we haven't seen that in a long time here."
Jimmie Booker is from Corpus. He said his father taught him and his brother to fish when they were just kids.
"More times than not you are disappointed," Booker said. "But when you do get the big one it makes it all worth it. You know, you just come out and do your best every time."
Booker said he has been fishing in Florida and in rivers in North Carolina and Tennessee, but said they don't compare to fishing in Corpus.
"We are right here on the Gulf of Mexico," Booker said. "There is just so much opportunity. We are a coastal city. I like here a lot more. There is just so much more water, just so much more open. Florida was cool, but there's just something about being home."
Bottom line, no matter where you fish, it all comes down to basics.
"You gotta know your areas, what to use and where to go," Cuellar said.
