CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — While a massive upper level ridge keeps brutal heat in place over the southern and southwest United States, a slight shift to the north will allow tropical moisture and modest rain chances for the Coastal Bend this weekend and into early next week.

Expect afternoon temperatures to surge into the middle 90s both Thursday and Friday, with heat indices approaching 110 degrees.

The mercury will ease just a little bit through the weekend with increased cloud cover and isolated to scattered showers and thunderstorms associated with a weak tropical wave.

That system will move inland and west of the region by Sunday, but isolated sea breeze showers are still anticipated through Wednesday.

Accumulated rainfall totals through midweek will be generally less than a quarter of an inch, so keep watering your yard and don't cancel any outdoor plans.
