Before his death, an Iowa man set up a scholarship to put underprivileged students through college.

According to KCRG, the man was a carpenter named Dale Schroeder, and before passing in 2005, his net worth was valued just short of $3 million.

He consulted his lawyer about what to with his money after he died and ended up setting up a scholarship for some Iowa students to go through college. The program would cover not just tuition, but room, board, and even gas money for some of the poorest students.

"He was that kind of a blue-collar, lunch pail kind of a guy. Went to work every day, worked really hard, was frugal like a lot of Iowans," Schroeder's lawyer, Steve Nielsen, told CNN.

Schroeder was able to put 33 Iowans through college who may not have had the opportunity otherwise.
