CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Wounded combat veterans are hitting the water with fishing reels in hand.

About 30 veterans are taking part in the seventh annual Heroes Cup Fishing Tournament. Before the fishing fun began, the veterans headed to Ingleside on Wednesday morning. They began a procession and headed to Aransas Pass where they visited students at Charlie Marshall Elementary and Sacred Heart Elementary Schools. Their tour of the coastal area ended in Rockport where they will be taking part in a fishing retreat.

The reason for the fishing tourament and procession was a show of appreciation for their service.

"The worst thing you can do to a veteran is forget their service and we don't want to do that so we're doing our best to see that that doesn't happen," said Ron Kocian, President of Warriors Weekend.

The veterans will get to fish for fun tomorrow with the tournament taking place on Friday.
