Corpus Christi Independent School District Police are preparing to file charges against the students who deployed pepper spray at Dorothy Adkins Middle School.
CCISD Police Chief Kirby Warnke said the district is looking at filing assault charges against two students who are accused of causing a disruption in the cafeteria on Monday.
The students are accused of dispersing the pepper spray on the floor, and from there, it quickly went airborne, affecting several students. Many parents rushed to the campus after their children complained of eye irritation and respiratory issues.
Warnke could not release the names, genders or ages of the suspects because they are juveniles.
There's no word on whether the students will face disciplinary action in the incident.
CCISD Director of Communications Leanne Libby released the following statement this morning:
"To maintain student privacy, we do not discuss discipline for specific incidents. Violations of the Student Code of Conduct are investigated and disciplinary measures are taken as warranted. Safety is a priority at all campuses."
