A local non-profit group got a new set of wheels to help them reach out to those who need medical help in rural areas of the Coastal Bend.
Wednesday, the Caring Foundation of Texas of Blue Cross Blue Shield generously donated a Care Van to the Amistad Community Health Center near Brownlee and Elizabeth streets.
The van will be used to evaluate and treat patients in Robstown. Petronila, Banquete, and also in Jim Wells County.
The medical group says they are going to help parents in underserved communities. sign their children up for immunizations to helping folks enroll in Medicaid.
Diane Herrero, who is the Chief Financial Officer at the Amistad Community Health Center, said, "One of the biggest barriers for our patients is lack of transportation so for being able for us to go to them and help them receive the services is exciting for us."
The Caring Foundation will let Amistad use the van for three years and they will also pay for the gas and insurance on the vehicle.
