CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas gubernatorial candidate Robert "Beto" O'Rourke will be visiting Corpus Christi tonight on one of the first stops of his nascent campaign.

O'Rourke will appear from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at La Playa by the Bay, 227 Water St. You can watch the stream below.

According to his office, O'Rourke will hear what challenges people in the Coastal Bend have faced under Gov. Greg Abbott's leadership.

The former El Paso congressman announced his bid to challenge Abbott on Monday.

O'Rourke lost a close race against Ted Cruz for the U.S. Senate in 2018. O'Rourke then unsuccessfully ran for president two years later.

Since then, O'Rourke has maintained a high profile across the state, speaking out against the Republican-led voting restrictions that Abbott signed into law in September.

He also helped raise funds for Democrats who tried to block that legislation.

In San Antonio on Tuesday, O'Rourke outlined what he will work on if elected.

"We've got to stop with this extremism that we see from the governor right now," O'Rourke said. "For example, this abortion ban and that $10,000 bounty on Texas women that's driving employers out of the state and is making harder to create quality jobs here."

O'Rourke said other goals include creating a reliable functioning electricity grid and increasing job numbers.

Abbott, who is seeking a third term, has already posted an ad series on YouTube criticizing O'Rourke's stance on gun control, health care reform, immigration and Black Lives Matter.
