Lt. Michael Pena with the Corpus Christi Police Department says despite the rise in violence just over the past few days, Corpus Christi is still safe and officers are hard at work patrolling the streets. At the moment investigators are still trying to track down suspects in all three recent cases. Police tell us most homicides in the area are not random acts of violence.
"More often than not, there's sometime of connection between the offender and the victim, that is something the detectives would has out as they investigate each crime. “
To date, CCPD says there have been a total of 33 homicides since the start of year, there is still about a month and a half left in the year.
Several residents say they still feel safe in the City and believe crime is not as bad as other cities across Texas.
Renee Martinez says She is very comfortable living in the area.
"I do feel much safer in Corpus over all, crime to me isn't just very high, i lived in Dallas for almost two years and crime is way worse there.”
Ana Fernice also moved to the costal bend and says she has not had a problem.
“I'm coming from San Antonio, which has a higher crime over there, so far i feel safe.”
Bette Wood, who’s lived in Corpus Christi since she was four says CCPD is doing everything right.
“ I have faith in the police department, i think they are doing this job.”
