Rain and wet roads are to blame for a deadly accident this morning.  Just after 11 a.m. today, a car headed into Corpus Christi on I-37 skidded out of control near Redbird Lane.

The car went up on the concrete median then hit a support column for the flyover.  The driver of that car is identified as 21-year-old Aspen Salazar who is a Texas A&M Corpus Christi student form Kyle, Texas.  We are told she died at the scene.  Traffic was backed up for a while as emergency crews took several hours to remove her and her vehicle from the roadway.

While the rains continue, police are asking everyone to drive safely and be especially careful on the slick roads.

“Basically just watch your speed.  Just watch how fast you’re going,” said Lt. Timothy Frazier with the Corpus Christi Police Department.

Frazier says other accidents followed due to drivers rubbernecking or just not paying attention.
