PORTLAND- Portland police say they are looking for an armed suspect that entered a home, confronted a homeowner, and tried to steal a vehicle.

The incident happened around 11:00 am Tuesday morning inside a house along Crosby Street in Portland.

According to Portland Police Chief Mark Corey, officers received reports of a suspicious person near a neighborhood and they received a second report of a suspicious person along Crosby Street.

When officers arrived at a house, the homeowner says a Hispanic male entered their home and confronted them and tried to take the victim’s vehicle.

According to police, the suspect noticed officers were in the area and he decided to flee the scene on foot.

Chief Corey says a daycare was placed on lockdown as they searched for the armed suspect. Chief Corey added there were no gunshots fired and no one suffered any injuries.

Chief Corey stated Portland was not under lockdown.

Police say they want their residents to remain vigilant because the suspect is still on the loose and is considered armed and dangerous.
