While all attention has been on the novel coronavirus outbreak, new data shows that the flu remains a bigger threat in the United States.

According to the CDC, the flu is now widespread in every state except for Hawaii as well as Washington D.C.

So far this season, there have been at least 19 million cases of the flu and more than 180,000 hospitalizations.

At least 10,000 people have died, including 68 children.

And the latest numbers from the Nueces County Health District indicate that there's no slowdown of flu activity here.

The health district reported 553 cases last week.

That's up more than 50 percent from the same time in 2019.

The state health department has reported 13 pediatric deaths this flu season.

Three of them have been in South Texas.

Officials recommend getting vaccinated.

Children as young as 6 months old can get a shot.
