Del Mar College officials held a celebration at the site of their new Southside campus.
Work on the new 96-acre campus at Yorktown and Roddfield has been going on since June.
The celebration was to mark the first construction of a new Del Mar campus in 60 years.
The $139 million project was made possible by a bond approved by voters in 2016, but it's an idea that's been worked on for 10 years.
"You know this campus will be affording opportunities for thousands and thousands of people who have already moved here over the past decade and who will be coming here in generations to come.” said Del Mar College President Mark Escamilla.
The new south side campus will open in the summer of 2022.
It will offer all the basic classes plus some signature programs like biotechnology, architecture, engineering, and culinary and restaurant management.
Those signature classes will be moved from the west and east campus where they are currently offered.
