Shop with a Cop continues seeking donations

Law enforcement and kids from around the Coastal Bend have been spending time together.

It is all part of the Annual Shop with a Cop program.

School counselors chose students in need. Depending on funding, each child is given $100 to $140 to purchase basic necessities.

“Clothes, jackets, toothbrushes,” says Audra Gerick, W.C. Andrews Elementary School counselor.

Students are able to purchase a gift.

Unlike previous years, the program can use a little extra help.

“As of right now it’s less than what it was last year, and it’s due to the funding, if more funds come in we’ll be able to do additional shops,” says CCPD senior officer Javier Cantu.

Senior officer Javier Cantu says in past years more than 500 kids have benefited from the program. This year, their budget allows only 425 elementary school students.

The organization is still accepting donations.
