Hurricane Harvey devastated many areas in the Coastal Bend and Refugio is one of them.

Some homes have been totally rebuilt, while other homes are a painful reminder of the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey.

One of those homes still damaged is owned by Ramon Villarreal. He was able to get some tarps on his roof, but that was months ago.

And now, the tarps have moved and you can see the sunlight from the inside.

Villarreal was living in the house as recently as last week. He said he does not know what he is going to do.

Villarreal is not alone. Hundreds of Refugio residents are staying in their damaged homes and Dorey Williams, the Director for the Refugio County Volunteer Reception Center says, "most of the people on our board here do not have insurance and so they got very little money from FEMA or with it being 10 months later,  have run out of using their FEMA money for just their household expense,"

Williams adds that she is in desperate need of skilled labor and financial donations.

She also said that rebuilding Refugio may take a long time, "it’s going to take 2-3 years if not longer to get all these houses repaired."

To give financial donations to assist with Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts. Make all checks payable to: "Refugio County Community Development Foundation" ( you may use RCCDF) and in the note write RCVRC (Refugio County Volunteer Reception Center). Send donations to Refugio County VRC C/O Chamber of Commerce, 301 N. Alamo St., Refugio, TX 78377.

To donate your time call Dorey Williams 361-230-1154.
