Update July 31 4:52 p.m: AEP has pushed the restoration time to midnight.

Thousands of Corpus Christi residents are without power after a massive fire broke out at the Rodd Field AEP Substation Wednesday afternoon.

AEP says more than 14,000 customers are affected.

CCISD has closed school campuses in the affected area for the day. They will reopen for normal business hours when power is restored.

The City has temporarily closed The Dr. Clotilde P. Garcia Public Library located at 5930 Brockhampton Street due to the power outage. As repairs take place, citizens are encouraged to visit one of the City’s other library locations:

  • La Retama Central, 805 Comanche Street
  • Harte Public Library, 2629 Waldron Road
  • Neyland Public Library, 1230 Carmel Parkway
  • Hopkins Public Library, 3202 McKinzie Street

AEP says the initial estimated time of restoration is 7 p.m. however, that time could change following all assessments.
