Troubleshooters: Bluff House

Posted: Updated:

On today's Troubleshooters, it's been almost 4 months since a disabled Flour Bluff couple gave a contractor nearly $8000.00 to make repairs to damages done to their house by Hurricane Harvey.

We went out there today.

Charlie Thornton and Dallas Helms still believe that someday, someway, somehow they'll be able to move back into their Flour Bluff home.

This is what it looks like today.

So until the job is actually complete, they'll continue calling this RV, sitting in their backyard, home.

It belongs to Pat Ayres and Award Roofing, the people they hired in February to fix their house.

Ever since he started the job Ayres has put Charlie and Dallas and their son up in a hotel, his house, and now the RV.

"Well, they're getting a new roof decking put on right now.  The crew should be there sometime later on this afternoon to put some more on," Thornton told the Troubleshooters.

But no work was being done when we were at the house today.

Charlie and Dallas also tell us Pat Ayres isn't even in Texas these days.

He's in South Dakota.

And Child Protective Services has visited multiple times to check on their son, and the living conditions Charlie and Dallas are providing for him.

But there is some light coming from the end of the proverbial tunnel.

"My brother says that his boss is gonna come and re-do the whole house.  Rewire the whole house," Helms said.

It's been nearly 4 months since Pat Ayres and Award Roofing began this job.

4 months and $8000.00.

And this is where it's at today.

"Do you still believe that he's going to get the job done ?  Yes.  Eventually.  yeah.  I know it's slow going, but yeah, I think eventually."

And one more obstacle for Charlie and Dallas.  Their latest utility bill from the city is for $901.00.
