Changes along HWY 361 for smooth Spring Break traffic

Posted: Updated:

The City of Corpus Christi is temporarily changing traffic patterns for beachgoers during spring break.

Starting, 9 a.m. Friday, March 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, March 19, the beach entrance is Newport Pass Road and exit is Zahn Road.  Each night, police will close the Newport Pass Road entrance.  Beachgoers can enter and exit at Zahn Road.

The beach itself will have a two-way circular traffic pattern with the middle lane used for emergency vehicles only.  To ensure vehicles can exit from the beach and enter the highway easily, the Engineering Department is adding a temporary traffic signal at State Highway 361 and Zahn Road.

Beach Access Road 3 will be open to two-way traffic however a 4x4 is recommended for this area.

Police will be monitoring traffic and say they will make adjustments to these changes as needed.  They've also said that they will crack down on illegal passing on State Highway 361 so remain patient.

And should beachgoers head to Port Aransas, five ferries will be operating during Spring Break.
