Baker Middle School 8th grader wins District Spelling Bee

An eighth grader from Marvin Baker Middle School is the 2018 Districtwide Spelling Bee champ.  Jazelle Saligumba will head to Washinton, D.C. for the Scripps National Spelling Bee. 

CCISD hosted 48 spelling bee contestants on Saturday, March 3rd at Miller High School.  The 48 spelling bee contestants represented 36 elementary schools ad 12 middle schools.  

After 26 rounds, Jazelle Saligumba, was named the 2018 Districtwide Spelling Bee Champion. Runner up went to fifth grader Arjun Mattewada from Windsor Park Elementary School.  She will also head to the national event.

Scripps did not hold a regional event this year due to lack of sponsorships.

The  National Spelling Bee will be held May 27-June 1.
