Monica and John Felan hired a contractor to do some work on their house.
That was back in November.
Today, there is still a huge mess in the backyard of construction debris and they had to hire someone else to finish the job.
The contractor told KZTV News he became frustrated with the couples insurance claims and the couple told us he never finished the job.
So, what advice is there for people who enlist the services of a contractor?
Ben Saenz, the assistant to attorney Bobby Bourlon at the Bourlon Law Firm here in Corpus Christi said, "well I think you need to take the common sense approach to do your homework to review all the credential that this particular contractor has. If you by chance want to hire the contractor and he provides you with a contract. You should take that contract to an attorney of your choice to have that reviewed for content and see if that is something that is in your best interest or not."
What about things like money? When do you give the contractor money?
Saenz said, "well the common sense approach is no I don't give people money up front unless I know what I am getting for that money.. again it always goes back to the contract ...and have it reviewed...for your protection.. always have your contracts reviewed."
