All Hands and Hearts: Harvey volunteers seeking shelter of their own

Posted: Updated:
ARANSAS PASS -

A group of volunteers that have been rebuilding homes in Aransas Pass needs your help to continue moving forward.

The group is called, All Hands and Hearts. They've been in town since September hoping to alleviate the burden of displaced victims of Hurricane Harvey.

"In the Coastal Bend community we have done a lot of the gutting of homes and that entails taking out the walls and the floors and everything that has been saturated with water," said Project Manager, Rico Wilcox.

The work they plan to do could take up to a few months. They've already helped dozens of families in need. Mike Nugent, a resident of Aransas Pass knows how badly the help is still needed. His home was damaged during Hurricane Harvey.

"Since day one, they've come in, I can't say enough good things about them, I really can't," said Nugent.

Unfortunately, the place where the volunteers sleep will be unavailable next month. The group is hoping to find shelter soon.

"We are looking for a basic house that can house about 50 people, that has a kitchen, preferably, if it has bathrooms, but we can provide portable potties as well, showers, and a space where we can store some of our tools and materials as well," said Wilcox.

Volunteers are hoping to start the next phase of their plan which is rebuilding homes. Besides shelter, they can always use more helping hands.
