Port A ferry not boarding large vehicles

Posted: Updated:
PORT ARANSAS -

The Port Aransas ferry system is limiting the types of vehicles it can transport at certain times throughout the day.  The restrictions are being attributed to extremely low tides.

In a press release Friday, the Port Aransas ferry system noted that due to the abnormally low tide conditions, they will be unable to board large RV's and trucks pulling fifth-wheel and low-boy trailers.

Port Aransas ferry warns that undercarriages of the vehicles and trailers could be damaged or stuck in a "high-center" position because the extremely low tides are increasing the angle of the loading ramp.

The tide conditions are expected to continue until at least Thursday, January 18 so motorists are advised to use SH 361 northbound from Corpus Christi to access Port Aransas.

Up-to-date information on boarding conditions will be displayed on electronic message signs on SH 361 in Port Aransas and Aransas Pass, on the ferry system’s Twitter feed: @PortA_Ferry or by calling 361-749-2850.
