Thirsty thief takes off with jewelry, handgun and soda

Posted: Updated:

A thirsty thief breaks into a home and allegedly takes jewelry, a handgun and a big red soda.

The break-in happened on the 1000 block of Miramar Place, Wednesday morning.

"What if my wife had been home? The footage I have, 10 minutes after she left, the guy was in the door," said Zach Schmitt.

Surveillance video captured the moment a man broke into Schmitt's home. He says, the man initially tried getting into the home through the front gate around 10am. After several attempts, he went to the back side of the home, and broke through a back door.

"We didn't see him actually, break the window, or break the door but, we know he got through the front door because there is glass everywhere," said Schmitt.

Once the suspect got inside the home, he ransacked the place. We are told, he allegedly left with thousands of dollars worth of Peruvian jewelry and a handgun.

The most surprising part in the surveillance video was when the suspect is seen leaving the home with a big red soda in his hand.

"The main thing is my wife's jewelry, it's past down from her grandmother from Peru, and that stuff is sentimental, I could careless about the gun,"

Schmitt told Action 10 News, one of his other neighbors was also broken into on the same day.
