Sunrise Mall walk event goes viral

Posted: Updated:

An event to reminisce about the days when the Sunrise Mall was the "Haunt" for most teenagers has gone viral.  Daniel Perez initiated the idea for a "walk around Sunrise Mall like it's the 80's".  Over 3,000 Facebook users have shown interest and a over three hundred have accepted the invite for Monday, January 15th from 4 pm to 7 p.m.

The walk has also turned into a make-shift costume party. Several users have commented that they will dress in their best 80's attire.

Perez created the event in response to news that the Dollar Cinemas inside the mall is planned for closure.  He wrote the following description for the event:

Considering the Dollar Cinema is closing down on the 16th, we might as well show the good ol’ Sunrise Mall some love! 80’s style dress is welcome and empty shopping bags for pretend is cool too! The more people we get to “shop” at this old mall the better. We need to make this look like a scene from The Legend of Billie Jean!

Chelsea's Pub, one of the businesses open during Sunrise Mall's peak, will be showing a Corpus Christi favorite flick, The Legend of Billie Jean.  The movie was filmed in Corpus Christi with several scenes right inside the mall.
