Trial delayed for Portland man accused of killing father

Posted: Updated:

A Portland man accused of murdering his father won't be heading to trial anytime soon.

A San Patricio County judge ruled that Andrew Mushel was incompetent to stand trial.

Mushel, 24, is charged with murder, aggravated assault and arson.

Portland Police say Mushel killed his 63-year-old father, Chris Mushel, in April of 2016 after they got into a fight.

According to police, Mushel then allegedly set their home on fire.

He is currently being held in the San Patricio County Jail, but his attorney says he will be moved to a secure mental health facility.

Medical experts at the facility will evaluate Mushel over the next few months and determine whether he is mentally competent to stand trial.
