Woman loses home, pets in Flour Bluff fire

Posted: Updated:

A woman is devastated after a fire tore through her home and killed her beloved dogs.

It happened at a home on Behmann Drive just before 6 p.m. Wednesday.

Five dogs had originally been unaccounted for but officials later said, only two dogs were lost in the fire.  "I heard them screaming and crying," said Donna Dupree.

The renter was inside her property when the blaze broke out.  She says, if it wasn't for her neighbors, she probably would not have made it out of her home.

"I came down the hallway and I saw part of the ceiling on fire, and I had just enough time to get my big boy dog out," said Dupree.

Officials say, the fire spread to a neighbors home.  He was able to make it out safely.  Some people say, they heard loud explosions following the fire.

Dupree is mourning the loss of her pets. "They were there for me when I needed somebody, when I had a headache, they were there for me, and I couldn't save them."

Firefighters were not able to determine the cause of the fire but they did say it was not suspicious.
