CCPD investigating attempted liquor store robbery

Posted: Updated:

CORPUS CHRISTI - Two female employees at Toddy Shoppe Liquor said they feared for their lives Saturday night when a man swinging a large pipe came into the store demanding money.

Corpus Christi Police said they are actively searching for this man so business owners in the area can feel safe again.

Surveillance footage from inside the liquor store Saturday night shows a Hispanic male, believed to be in his 40's, entering the store armed with a large pipe.

The store manager described the man as aggressive, and said he broke a TV, a computer, and part of the camera system.

The manager also said the same man had been in the store just a day before the attempted robbery and paid close attention to the cameras and surveillance technology.

"He was scoping us out and seeing what we were doing. There are only three females that work here so I'm sure he saw that too," Taylor Garcia said.

Employees at Toddy Shoppe said they aren't sure what spooked the man, but he eventually ran out of the store and did not steal any money from the register.

Corpus Christi Police said this was not the only attempted robbery within the area Saturday night.

Detectives are working to possibly link the two incidents together, and said with the quality of surveillance footage, they are confident they will catch this assailant.

If you have any information on this incident, you are asked to call Corpus Christi Crime Stoppers at (361) 888-TIPS.
