Barbara Canales announces run for Nueces Co. Judge seat

Posted: Updated:
NUECES COUNTY -

The soon to be vacant seat of Judge Lloyd Neal has another contender, as Barbara Canales announced that she will run for the office.

Canales, a commissioner with the Port of Corpus Christi, announced her plans to run for Nueces County Judge as running for the office began. She added that she will run as a democrat.

Judge Lloyd Neal currently holds the seat but has announced that he will not run for reelection, leaving the position open for contenders.

So far, Canales joins Nueces County Commissioner Mike Pusley in the running. They are the only candidates that have announced as of time of writing.

As for her platform, Canales said she has three main priorities: economic development and growing the tax base, streamlining systems and administration and focusing on decisive leadership decisions.

"I'm going to be working very hard all over this county," said Canales. "From north, south, east and west, and listening to concerned citizens. I want to know what they think about their county, and what they think their county judge can do better."
