CORPUS CHRISTI -

Several celebrations held around town in honor of Veterans Day Saturday morning and afternoon.

This morning, a huge crowd gathered at Sherrill Park, to honor those who served our country.

The Veterans Band of Corpus Christi played patriotic tunes at the ceremony.

Veterans and their families thanked one another for their service.

Al Cantu Jr., a chairman with the Texas Veterans Commission, says,"When we come out of service after serving our country, after especially a time of war peacetime it doesn't matter, it's nice to come back home and be recognized by your community by your fellow veterans thanks for a job well done."

They also took a moment to remember those who did not make it back home.

This ceremony has been going on since the 1970's.

The holiday used to be known as Armistice Day, which marked the end of World War One. It was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.
