Miller High enjoying success on the field and the future looks even brighter

Posted: Updated:

Right now the Miller Bucs have  3 wins and 3 losses on the year.

This greatly exceeds expectations.

"They work so hard. We came in late. Right now you are seeing the fruits and  we are excited about the future," said Millers head coach Justen Evans.

Even more exciting is some of these kids are freshmen.

That's right 14 year old kids.

This pass play, the quarterback, Freshman Andrew Body and the receiver Freshman Marlon Crockett, who makes a great one handed grab.

Body, inherited the QB job a game and a half ago and in that short time has over 500 yards passing. And he can run too.

"Andrew provides us with that dual threat and the kid just came to practice every single day. Put in his time and he got an opportunity against GP to go in there and and he ended up having a really good game and also against Alice, : said Evans.

"You're 14 years old and  you are the starting varsity qb. Has that kinda sunk in yet? "Yes sir, but my coaches and my parents have been telling me that I am special. I've just been putting in the work and getting better," said Body.

Another freshman who is excelling is Austin Leavell, who was selected to the 2017 FBU freshman All-American Bowl.

The offensive lineman was 1 of 4 chosen in the State of Texas to play in the Bowl game this December in Florida.

'It's an award that actually picks a good all around student athlete is tell me about it.? "Yes sir, good all around. Good in the field especially," said Leavell.

"Those kids have gone in and done some great things and I'm just so excited. And I'm blesses, cause i have them for three more years, and that as a blessing for us> They are 2 kids who are going to do some great things here at Miller," concluded Evans.

The Bucs take on Tuloso Midway at Buc Stadium on Friday.
